Thrush remedy
Over the years I've tried just about every thrush remedy on the market. Not a fan of anything that stains my hands, thankuverymuch.
My two favorites are:
Oxine AH soak, for when you want to reach deep with the treatment
and
my "Thrush Dust".
I use it when I want to both treat thrush and toughen the frog. I use it sparingly, no more than three times a week. It's best if used as the horses come in from the outdoors and their feet are still damp. This will make the dust stick even better and the copper will activate and penetrate the very outermost layer of their soles.
Measurements given two ways, all these ingredients can be sourced online. I prefer either food or pharmacy grade.
1C Sodium Bentonite clay (200g)
1 1/2C Diatomaceous Earth (115g)
4 T Copper Sulfate Powder (75g)
2T Eucalyptus Powder (20g)
Mix and put in a squirt type bottle to apply. This base can also have water, alcohol, or witch hazel applied to it for use as a packing.
